Adelman declined working with planned successor

Rick Adelman, who had coached the Houston Rockets since 2007, stepped down at season's end when he and general manager Daryl Morey couldn't agree on terms for next season.
The Houston Chronicle reports that one of those terms was that Morey wanted to hire Adelman's successor this summer and have him work as a coach under Adelman next year before taking over the spot.

Morey's desire for Adelman to "mentor a successor" that he and Rockets owner Leslie Alexander selected didn't sit well with Adelman, who "was unwilling to make the changes necessary to his staff, arguing in favor of assistants," the Chronicle reports.
