Kevin Durant has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for making a “menacing gesture” during the Thunder’s 116-97 win in Oakland Thursday. The incident occurred when Durant made a throat-slash gesture to celebrate a vicious dunk towards the end of the second quarter (0:24 mark):
Durant explained his celebration during last night’s postgame interviews (h/t Ben Golliver, SI.com):
“Kill ‘em and pray for ‘em after the game,” Durant said of his new celebration.“It’s nothing against the team I’m playing against,” Durant said of his animated moves, adding that somebody encouraged him to do it following a highlight dunk. “Come out with a mindset and be friends after the game.”
