Jay-Z to sell his shares of the Brooklyn Nets

Shawn Carter (a.k.a. Jay-Z) is cutting his ties with the Brooklyn Nets to dive deeper into the world of sports.

according to Yahoo Sports, Carter is expanding his Roc Nation brand to include the representation of NBA players. Carter already has deals in place with the New York Giants Victor Cruz and the New York Yankees Robinson Cano. To make his hoops dream a reality he can not double dip and work as an agent and own shares in a NBA team. You never thought it would come to this but the Brooklyn native by way of the Marcy Projects must say well…bye-bye Brooklyn.

This is such a smart move on his part. Carter owns less than 1-percent of the Nets.
The visibility and acumen that he has brought to the table for that franchise most likely outweighs his probable return. Roc Nation will utilize CAA for the day-to-day operations and contract particulars.
Carter’s expertise in branding and urban marketing is where young athletes will experience the real windfall of working with Carter. That and the guidance that he can pass along to a young man that is turning nothing into something. After all, there is nothing that they have seen and done that he has not overcome. In today’s competitive environment, we often lament the behavior of young men that dive off the deep end when they cash in on the hard work of their childhood. A mentor such as Carter can prevent poor decision-making. And if he makes some money in the process so be it.
