Report: Timberwolves to Fire Rambis Post-Draft

 

The Kurt Rambis coaching drama has reached a conclusion.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations, David Kahn, is expected to announce the firing of head coach Kurt Rambis after Thursday night’s draft.

There has been no hiding the fact that Kahn and Rambis flat out didn’t get along. According to the report:

Kahn met with Rambis last week and believes he has reached an impasse with the coach. The relationship between Kahn and Rambis deteriorated over the course of the past season, to the point where there’s been little communication between them.

In two seasons as the head coach for the Wolves, Rambis accumulated a horrid 32-132 record. He will be bought out from the last two years of his contract.
Per the report, University of Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar is one candidate that Kahn and staff have looked at as a potential replacement of Rambis.
According to Yahoo! Sports reporter Adrian Wojnarowski:

The Timberwolves have gathered background on Romar for several weeks, and are expected to make him a candidate to replace Rambis.

While Romar’s name is being thrown around early, I’m sure Kahn will take his time hiring Rambis’ replacement. For Kahn, this hiring could make or break his own tenure as President of Basketball Operations of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It appears that in three drafts as President, this will be the second time that David Kahn enters the draft war room with no head coach for his team.
