Hornets F West to opt out

New Orleans Hornets forward David West will opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent.
It is a somewhat risky move by West, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL in March and was scheduled to make $7.5 million next season. He enters free agency as the NBA approaches a lockout that could dramatically alter the league's financial landscape.

Prior to the injury, there was little question about West's value. He is a two-time All-Star who averaged 18.9 points and 7.6 rebounds in 70 games before the injury that required surgery in April.
West turns 31 in August. He has spent his entire eight-year career with the Hornets, averaging 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in 530 games. He reportedly is ahead of schedule on his rehabilitation.
